STEM SATURDAY ACADEMY

Monthly Saturday program that focuses on building an increase in curiosity for middle school, Black girls who are interested in learning about the world of STEM.

PROGRAM

Empowerment, Preparation, & Placement (EPP)

Our program for high school aged, Black girls to continue feeding their curiosity in STEM. We provide ACT test preparation, mentoring services, math/science tutoring, internship experiences, and more. 

COLLEGE AGE PROGRAM

VIRTUAL COLLEGIATE COMMUNITY

Black Girls Do STEM (BGDSTEM) Virtual Community is geared toward our college aged girls to serve as a space where they can engage directly with BGDSTEM mentors and other students in the community.

Through our core values of scholarship, training, empowerment (equity), and mentorship, we trigger curiosity in the mind of Black girls, building confidence, skills, and the future STEM workforce.

FAQs

Are your programs exclusively for African American girls and other girls of color?

Yes.

How much does the STEM Saturday Academy cost?

Free. All program materials are based on funding from multiple sources including grants, private donations, and foundation funding.

What age range of girls are accepted in the STEM Saturday Academy program?

Girls grades 6th-9th. New students must be in 6th-7th grade on March 1st to participate. Once in the program girls can participate annually through 9th grade.

Does the BGDSTEM have programming with 10th-12th graders?

Yes, however these girls must have participated in our STEM program as a 6th-9th grader to have access to our additional resources for upper class students. Please fill out the application for the EPP program.

How are students selected?

Students are selected on a first come first basis, with preference given to girls living in the direct community in which the site is located as per our program requirements, as well as girls who attended the previous years program.

What are the COVID-19 in person precautions?
  • Max 20 girls per room
  • Temperature check at check in
  • Face shield, gloves and goggles required
  • Will be discussed at orientation and the above requirements are subject to
  • change as deemed fit as the COVID-19 situation changes.
